Example Biographies for Social Media Platforms

Facebook

pinky sue benson facebook biography

Your Facebook page includes an About section that is important to fill out. Your Facebook visitors will often visit there to find your real estate website, email, or phone number. And you want to encourage them to get off of Facebook and into your CRM as soon as possible!

The biography is immediately below and has no character limits. You can transpose what you’ve written for your website to here with no problems.

Twitter

bill lublin twitter bio

Twitter expanded its character limit for tweets from 140 to 280, but the bio is still limited to 160 characters. So you need to be pithy!

Bill Lublin is an active Realtor on Twitter whose bio is almost exclusively adjectives and titles, giving you the highlights of what makes him him. Twitter runs on personality and authenticity, so explaining who you are quickly is important.

LinkedIn

ben caballero linkedin bio

LinkedIn has a more professional audience than other social media sites, and you will want to tailor your bio to that audience. You may want to emphasize your credentials and professional education, as well as how any past professional experiences influence your capabilities are an agent.

You also have the About section as well as a Headline section to complete. The headline can feature your tagline or value proposition. Make it clear what you do and what sets you apart. You can use the | bar to separate different titles, e.g. Investor-friendly Killeen Realtor | Owner of Hooquest | HoodHomesBlog.com.

If you have a Guinness World Record like Ben Caballero does, include it in your bio! Unless it’s a really stupid record.

Instagram

paige schulte instagram bio

Instagram has a very brief bio section – a mere 150 characters. You have to be very efficient with this space!

Paige Schulte above did a great job, giving an impression of who she is, what she does, her value proposition, and a call-to-action with a link.

YouTube

chris kwon youtube bio

Chris Kwon’s YouTube channel description is less about him and his business as it is the mission of his YouTube channel. His description does a good job explaining his rai·son d’être, but could benefit perhaps from a call to action.

Check out other top YouTube channels for description ideas.

Bio Writing Tips

  • Short Paragraphs. Short paragraphs (1-3 sentences) are much easier to read than walls of text. It allows readers to scan the content quickly if they like and get to relevant parts.
  • Headlines. Again with the “scannable” theme, including headlines for the different bio sections will help readers get to the relevant parts of your biography. E.g. “Where I Grew Up”, “My Journey to Real Estate”, “My Interests and Hobbies”.
  • Write in First Person. Even if it is your broker website, write in first-person. It feels more authentic and personable.
  • Include Images. A headshot is a great start. But consider additional photos relevant to the sections: a picture of your family, you working at the office, or officiating a soccer game in your free time. Whatever is relevant! Images are visually engaging and make you more personable.
  • Show, Don’t Tell. Talking about being the #1 salesperson or Rookie of the Year is not that interesting to potential clients. They don’t want to hear about your successes but about how that success will help them. Connect your accomplishments with how they’ve served home buyers and sellers.
  • Use Your Brand Voice. Keep a consistent tone with your personal brand. If you are a professional commercial brand, be more formal. If your brand is fun and Millennial, shorthand and slang are more fitting.

Real Estate Agent Bio Template

This real estate biography template is ideal for your website and anywhere that does not have character counts, allowing you to tell your full story.

  1. Value proposition. Begin with the part of your bio that speaks to your value proposition.
    1. EXAMPLE. As an Army officer, I bought a home at each duty station I was assigned. I loved real estate so much, I became a Realtor, serving local service members, families, and the community.
  2. Experience. Now is a good time to flesh out how your biography supports your value proposition, your years of experience, and any niches that you focus on.
    1. EXAMPLE. I’ve used the VA loan for my personal residence twice! I am certified with the Military Relocation Professional designation with specialized training for serving service members. I also own a single-family rental and fourplex rental that I “house hacked”, and am active in the local investor community.
  3. Background. Now is a good time to go back and trace your history to the present.
    1. EXAMPLE. I was born in Dallas and grew up in the North Texas suburbs. I graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2009 and served 5 years in the Field Artillery, including one free all-expenses-paid trip to Afghanistan. My mother was a real estate agent in California. My interest was further kindled in college when my economics teacher told us about how he would buy a home each time he was sent to a new duty station (he’s now out of the Army and a Realtor himself!).
  4. Location, Location, Location. Be sure to include information that ties you to the area and community involvement.
    1. EXAMPLE. I PCSed to Killeen in 2010. I loved the area and great cost of living. I left the Army to become a local agent in 2014. I began writing the Hood Homes Blog the next year, exploring local real estate trends and stats as well as sharing events and things to do in our area!
  5. Interests. Now is a good time to connect and share some about your personal life.
    1. EXAMPLE. I met my wife in 2011 while on vacation in Mexico, and we now have 5 children, 4 girls and 1 boy! I am naturally an introvert, but will come out of my shell to talk about three topics: real estate, politics (though not with clients!), and the Dallas Cowboys.
  6. Call to Action. Someone reading your bio is perhaps trying to learn if you are the right agent and personality for their home search. Give them an opportunity to say “yes” with a call to action.
    1. EXAMPLE. If you are looking to buy, sell, or invest in the Fort Hood area, I would love to interview as your agent! Please contact me at [email protected] or call/text at (512) 763-7912!
